Adult Education - Adult Basic Education (GED) and High School Equivalency Instructor

About the role

The Dutchess BOCES Adult Learning Institute seeks part-time evening instructors to teach adult basic education courses leading to the New York High School Equivalency Diploma (GED).

Responsibilities

• Create individualized lesson plans
• Engage in public outreach activities
• Communicate with students
• Track student progress and attendance
• Administer assessments

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
• Masters degree preferred, but not required if teaching certification is obtained within 6 months of start date
• NY Adult Education Certification preferred, but not required
• Experience working with diverse adult populations, particularly in an educational setting
• Confidence in teaching high school-level math and language skills

Qualifications

• Eligible for NY Adult Education Certification within 6 months of start date
• Ability to commit to a set weekly schedule
• Potential for substitute teaching on an as-needed basis

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
• Effective time management and organization skills

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated by the Program Coordinator.

Pay

$25 per hour
