About the role

The Academic Assistant works under the daily supervision of a qualified instructor or program director. The role supports instructional activities but does not develop or determine curricula or provide classroom/group instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all MGCCC policies and procedures.
  • Follow directions of the instructor or program director and collaborate as an effective member of the instructional team.
  • Prepare instructional materials under the instructor’s direction.
  • Monitor and observe student behaviors; share observations with the instructor.
  • Provide individual support for students and check for understanding of instructional materials.
  • Organize, use, and maintain supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Provide non-instructional support for students.
  • Understand community resources and discuss possible referrals with the instructor.
  • Assist with intake, orientation, and assessment of students.
  • Help implement, record, and monitor Student Success Plans.
  • Assist in administering, scoring, and evaluating diagnostic tests.
  • Prepare student folders and maintain records of student progress.
  • Collect data for reports and use the state-approved data system.
  • Maintain a professional attitude toward students and college personnel.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree from an institution of higher education.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in an educational setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, or a computer-related field.
  • Community college experience and/or SCT Banner experience.
  • Experience teaching High School Equivalency/Basic Skills.
