Adult Education Instructor / AS1338P

This position is located at the Stone County Regional Correctional Facility in Wiggins and reports to the Director of Adult Education.

About the role

The Adult Education Instructor facilitates assigned adult education classes, maintains student records, and develops individualized plans to assist students in achieving educational and employment goals.

Responsibilities

• Interprets assessment results to students.
• Provides instruction in:
  • Literacy and adult education
  • HSE test preparation
  • English language acquisition
  • Family literacy
  • Integrated English literacy and civics education
  • Workforce preparation
  • Integrated education and training, including career pathways
  • Workplace education, including National Career Readiness Certificate and Smart Start Pathway instruction
• Develops and assists students with Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs).
• Reviews and revises ILP progress and assignments with students.
• Maintains up-to-date student records and manages data for program improvement and accountability.
• Supervises and monitors academic assistants.
• Conforms to state adult education standards.
• Administers and interprets placement and diagnostic tests.
• Reviews goals progress with students at appropriate intervals.
• Provides varied learning opportunities to accommodate different learning styles.
• Conducts training in basic Internet, keyboarding, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), and general computer utilization.
• Maintains effective working relationships with college personnel and community members.
• Reviews and recommends instructional materials and software for purchase.
• Registers students in the MGCCC Banner system and maintains data for audits and accountability reports.
• Becomes knowledgeable of the state data system, records daily attendance, and ensures accuracy in data entry.
• Understands team-teaching requirements and prepares lesson plans to team-teach with college Career/Technical Instructors as assigned.
• Incorporates WorkKeys in lesson plans to facilitate NCRC Credentials.
• Ensures all students are enrolled in and earn Smart Start college credit.
• Incorporates and facilitates computer-based instruction in all Student Success Plans.
• Participates in required professional development and outreach activities.
• Maintains a professional attitude toward students.
• Accepts flexible scheduling and work locations as program needs change.
• Attends Community Campus staff meetings and college-wide meetings as directed.
• Assists with college recruitment events when appropriate.
• Performs all other duties assigned.

Requirements

• Earned bachelor's degree, or higher, in an appropriate field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
• Demonstrated 2 years of instructor experience.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
• Specialized software experience.
• Community College experience.
• Experience in an Adult Education classroom setting.
• Experience in a correctional facility setting.
