About the role

The Adult Corrections Officer Recruit initially receives training and orientation in basic security and custodial duties; performs security and custodial duties at a variety of posts as assigned; and performs other related duties as assigned. As training progresses, the incumbent will eventually be independently responsible on an assigned shift at any post for maintaining the safekeeping and control of adult residents in group quarters and individual activities.

Requirements

  • Legal Authorization To Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Education: Graduation from high school, or equivalent.
  • General Experience: One (1) year of responsible work experience which shows the ability to relate effectively with people, follow instructions, and give or exchange information.
  • Driver's License: Valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the complete Minimum Qualification Requirements.

Qualifications

  • Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position, such as reading reports, observing inmate activity, and performing searches and shakedowns.
  • Probationary Period: Successful completion of the 9-week Basic Corrections Recruit Class (BCRC) and additional drug tests during the nine-month probationary period.
  • Transfer Policy: Must remain at the Facility in which they are appointed for three years from the date of appointment. Transfer to another facility location may be permitted only after the three-year period has been served.

Pay

SALARY: $5,752.00 per month (CO-04)

Schedule

All applicants must be available to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Mandatory overtime may be required.

Testing Information

  • Written Test (WT): Administered remotely through a proctored software platform. Applicants must pass this test phase to proceed to the next.
  • CORRECTIONAL OFFICER PHYSICAL ABILITIES TEST (COPAT): Administered on the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Kauai at a designated location. Applicants must pass this test phase to proceed to the next.
  • Oral Interview: Administered on the islands of Hawaii, Oahu, Maui, and Kauai at a designated location. Applicants must pass this test phase to proceed to the next.
  • Pre-Offer Non-Medical Suitability Screening (POSS): Administered on the islands of Hawaii, Oahu, Maui, and Kauai at a designated location. Applicants must pass this test phase to proceed to the next.
  • Criminal History Check/Comprehensive Background Investigation and Truth Verification Examination: All applicants are required to sign an Applicant’s consent, Authorization and Request to Release Information Waiver.
