Essential Functions
- Aids the Director of Nursing in planning, directing, and supervising the activities of the nursing staff.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding the Nursing Department.
- Develops, implements, and updates department policies and procedures as necessary or as directed.
- Schedules staff to meet the needs of residents and regulatory requirements.
- Participates in annual surveys conducted by federal, state, and local agencies, and assists with implementing corrective actions.
- Conducts annual performance reviews of subordinate staff and provides guidance and education on their performance.
- Provides counseling and disciplinary action to staff members as needed.
- Trains and educates staff members on established infection control and standard precaution practices.
- Reports hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, and supply issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of residents and interacts with them in a respectful manner.
- Responds promptly and courteously to call lights in resident care areas.
- Communicates and interacts effectively with residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings and in-services.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Directly supervises all nursing staff, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing assistants.
Required Education and Experience
- Associate's degree in science, nursing, or related field.
- Graduated from an accredited nursing program.
- Current state license as a registered nurse.
- CPR certified.
- Two years of RN experience.
Prior Experience
- Previous experience managing a nursing department is preferred.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Five years of RN experience.
