About the role
Full-time float position supporting several clinics in the Pensacola and Tallahassee areas. The Admixture Tech II performs complex technical skills in preparing hazardous and nonhazardous agents under the supervision of the dispensing practitioner. This role requires expertise in sterile product preparation, biological safety cabinets, and knowledge of antineoplastic/cytotoxic agents, including handling precautions. The incumbent maintains medication and clinical supply inventory, acts as a liaison between departments, and ensures high productivity while contributing to total patient care.
Admixture Tech floats are required to travel 75%-100% weekly to meet clinic needs. Compliance with the company Driver Safety Operations and Motor Vehicle Records Check Policy is required.
Responsibilities
- Review medication orders to ensure accuracy, ascertain the products needed, and evaluate their suitability.
- Perform mathematical calculations to determine appropriate drug measurements for admixture.
- Prepare sterile and non-sterile medications accurately and timely as ordered by the prescriber.
- Properly don and doff garb to ensure aseptic preparation of hazardous and non-hazardous drugs.
- Understand the appropriate use and limitations of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure proper donning/doffing to prevent contamination.
- Maintain records and logs, including clinical research trials, compassionate and non-billable drugs, waste manifests, biological safety cabinet cleaning, mixing room cleaning, drug temperatures, controlled substances, and eye wash stations.
- Order, stock, and dispense medical supplies and drugs, ensuring proper inventory management, storage, and reconciliation to reduce waste and maintain product integrity.
- Complete all required education and training mandated by organization, state, federal, and regulatory agencies.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous drugs and waste materials in compliance with USP, OSHA, NIOSH, and state/federal regulations.
- Assess temperature monitoring systems and track accurate temperatures of ambient and refrigerated drugs.
- Document and report drug loss, communicate clinic charges, and initiate drug replacement/reimbursement.
- Collaborate with departments (e.g., Patient Financial Navigators, Procurement) to track and order patient drugs, minimizing interruptions in care.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by the Pharmacy Operations Supervisor and Pharmacy Operations Manager.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- College degree (preferred).
- Professional pharmacy technician certification (required), preferably Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
- Minimum of one year of experience as a pharmacy or admixture technician, preferably in a clinical setting.
- IV sterile admixture experience (preferred).
- Proficiency in medical terminology and attention to detail.
