Responsibilities
- Completes registration of incoming patients.
- Knows insurances and their interactions, explains basic reimbursement to the public.
- Performs duties of the physician answering service.
- Maintains appropriate files and records.
- Functions as the hospital operator.
- Performs general department clerical duties.
- Knows requirements for consent for treatment and guardianship, mental health consent.
- Handles multiple tasks effectively, maintains department and physician on-call schedules.
- Responds appropriately to alarms, assigns beds, works closely with nursing, ensures accurate census.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Ensures accurate and complete demographic information for database integrity.
- Acts as a patient advocate, communicates across disciplines.
- Gives activity reports to the next shift regarding on-call changes, ER situations, House Manager updates.
- Demonstrates competency in Infection Prevention and Control Practices and Policies.
Qualifications
- Demonstrates competency in Microsoft® Windows.
- May be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.
- Mandatory OSHA training completed annually.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Exposure to stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials if required.
- Must be able to occasionally lift or carry up to 10 lbs.
- Frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
- Must follow MyMichigan Health’s bloodborne pathogen and TB testing protocols.
- Able to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and stay awake.
- Overall dexterity required for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling.
