About the Role
Kings County Hospital Center, with over 625 beds, is a leading healthcare facility dedicated to providing high-quality care to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. This role involves overseeing non-medical functions related to patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, with broad scope for independent initiative and judgment. The position plays a key role in planning and organizing the operations of the Admissions Department.
Responsibilities
- Serve as liaison between the Admissions Office and Medical-Surgical staff, as well as with hospital support staff including Medical Records, Housekeeping, Dietary, and Nursing for scheduling admissions, bed availability, and utilization.
- Establish operational goals, manage records, control forms, and develop informational programs.
- Conduct departmental management studies, including organization, methods, and procedures, and recommend system improvements.
- Ensure prompt and accurate completion of all admission and preadmission forms.
- Supervise the collection of data on patient conditions and status.
- Maintain patient roster and control of visitors.
- Direct administrative and clerical functions related to patient registration.
- Oversee census control, including compiling and maintaining accurate patient census, bed availability, and related statistics.
- Direct the processing of advance notifications for patient admissions and discharges.
- Manage inter- and intra-hospital transfers.
- Supervise the initial control of patients' clothing, property, and valuables.
- Assist in the preparation and administration of the Admissions Department’s budget.
- Plan, assign, and review the work of subordinates to ensure satisfactory completion of assigned activities.
- Prepare work schedules and ensure compliance with procedures and policies.
Requirements
- A Baccalaureate Degree in Business Administration or a related discipline from an accredited college, plus one year of full-time experience in a progressively responsible supervisory or administrative position performing admissions duties in a hospital or similar institution with 150+ beds.
- OR a High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus five years of full-time experience in a supervisory or administrative admissions role in a hospital or similar institution with 150+ beds.
- OR a satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
