Position Summary

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for recruitment of prospective students for The Culinary Institute of America’s (CIA) three (3) domestic campuses in a specific geographic territory. Recruitment is conducted via various types of outreach, admissions presentations, and CIA events – both on and off campus.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a recruitment plan that includes communication outreach, campus events, and personalized contact.
  • Communicates with prospective students through phone, email, text, and other types of personalized communications to guide and manage their advance through the admissions funnel process to enrollment.
  • Conducts CIA presentations to groups of students, educators, parents, and other influencers to share information about CIA and build relationships.
  • Participates in a wide variety of Admissions events, including open houses, accepted student days, online presentations, information sessions, and other specialty events.
  • Leads campus tours to groups of prospective students and families with focus on key admissions selling points.
  • Forms relationships with key CIA Alumni, educators, and student supporters to support CIA recruitment and assist with student recruitment events.
  • Manages student files through admissions process including making decisions about whether students should be admitted to the college. Communicates with admitted students to encourage enrollment and enlist support of other CIA departments.
  • For applicants who present unusual and/or legal issues, consult with supervisor to determine final admissions decision.
  • Prepares and submits regular reports on status of accomplishments and activities.

Responsibilities Based On Team/Territory

  • Admissions Counselor-Adult-Transfer Students Counselors: Forms relationships and provides customized recruitment for special populations such as veterans, Online Bachelor’s candidates, career changers, career advancers, and degree completion students. Advises appropriate students on degree paths dependent on transfer credits.
  • Traditional Admissions Counselor-High School Students Counselors: Coordinates, plans, and executes on-and-off campus admissions travel and events to assist in student recruitment. Forms relationships with school counselors and high school educators from key feeder schools in assigned territory.
  • Admissions Counselor-International Students: Advises international students through application process that includes specialized international student requirements. Forms relationships with CIA partners across the world who assist in guiding students to the CIA.

Education & Experience

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required. Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience within college admissions, sales, outreach, student organization leadership or related experience. Two (2) years of admissions recruitment or sales experience preferred.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Driver’s License required with no more than one (1) moving violation in the past year.

  • Self-starter who can work independently and as a team. Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills required. Demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Ability to conduct presentations with professionalism and confidence. Customer service skills, with the ability to greet all guests of the CIA in a hospitable manner. Ability to collaborate with other department members, and work effectively with various aspects of the college community. Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with MS Office suite products. Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation. Solid organizational skills to maintain appropriate follow-up and records of activity.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends as required due to business needs.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry 30 pounds. Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods.
