Admissions Counselor

About the role

Responsible for translating the goals and values of the University to all categories of prospective students. Serves as an on‑campus representative of Sam Houston State University responsible for recruiting and guiding prospective students from initial inquiry through enrollment. Engages in outreach, relationship building, and data‑informed recruitment strategies to support University enrollment goals. Develops relationships with students, families, schools, counselors, and community partners while providing individualized support throughout the admissions and enrollment process.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements recruitment strategies in support of University enrollment goals.
• Recruits prospective students through high school visits, community college visits, college fairs, campus visits, classroom presentations, community events, individual appointments, and virtual engagement opportunities.
• Builds and maintains relationships with school administrators, counselors, teachers, community college personnel, community‑based organizations, alumni, and other recruitment partners.
• Provides prospective students and families with information regarding admission requirements, application procedures, academic programs, scholarships, financial aid, orientation, housing, student life, and enrollment processes.
• Reviews undergraduate applications and makes admission decisions in accordance with University policies and procedures.
• Communicates proactively with prospective and admitted students through telephone calls, email, text messaging, presentations, and CRM communication campaigns.
