Responsibilities

  • Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Ensure benefit eligibility and communicate it to the business office and patients/families.
  • Collaborate with facility medical and psychiatric personnel for appropriate referrals.
  • Coordinate admission and transfer processes from referral sources and among levels of care.
  • Maintain knowledge of milieu management practices.
  • Communicate projected admissions to relevant internal representatives.
  • Receive and document clinical information from referral sources or patients (including medical comorbidity).
  • Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with the admitting physician, and provide disposition recommendations.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate medical record documentation for authorization.
  • Complete initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission within payor timeframe guidelines.
  • Admit patients to the registration and accounting system and complete admission and consent forms.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers.
  • Resolve patient complaints and ensure patient safety.
  • Coordinate care for patients not being admitted and ensure appropriate follow-up care and referrals.
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision is conducted at 15-minute intervals as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a social services field required (state-specific licensing may apply).
  • Master’s degree in a social services field (psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing) or RN preferred.
  • One or more years’ experience in mental/behavioral health working with individuals in a clinical or observational capacity preferred.
  • Current licensure in the area of clinical specialty as required by the state.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire).

  • Proficiency in medical record documentation and authorization processes.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
