Admissions Counselor
About the role
Kansas Health Science University–Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (KHSU-KansasCOM) is seeking an Admissions Counselor to join its enrollment management team. Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor plays a vital role in attracting, recruiting, and counseling prospective medical students. This position supports student recruitment goals and promotes diversity within KHSU.
Responsibilities
- Represents KansasCOM at local, regional, and national college fairs, pre-medical conferences, and other recruitment events, both virtual and in-person.
- Cultivates relationships with prospective students, focused on the highest levels of customer service.
- Serve as the primary contact for current and prospective applicants, addressing questions related to the admissions process and requirements, program curriculum, and student support services.
- Screens and reviews applications to evaluate academics, MCAT scores, letters of recommendation and other supporting documents, while adhering to policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of applicant interactions and decisions in the specified database.
- Aids in the execution of all KansasCOM applicant interview days as well as on-campus events, such as open houses, tours, and accepted student day.
- Develop and maintain relationships with pre-med advisors.
- Maintains accurate, informative, and timely communications with internal and external constituents and students.
- Articulates the mission of KansasCOM in accordance with established values and expectations to prospective students and other representatives in the community.
- Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of KHSU-KansasCOM.
Requirements
- Demonstrated poise, competence, and professionalism in addressing groups of people.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, be detail-oriented, a self-starter, and able to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects and tasks while meeting appropriate deadlines and completing tasks accurately.
- Able to maintain accurate records.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Education, Public Relations or related degree preferred.
- Two years of admissions/student recruitment and/or student affairs experience in a health professional or academic institution of higher learning preferred.
- Experience in marketing in a higher education setting a plus.
- Experience using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite including ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Maintain on-going, insurable driving record.
- Ability to travel throughout the year with heaviest concentration occurring in the fall and spring.
- Ability to work evening or weekend hours for special events or recruitment travel.
Pay
The expected salary range for this position will be $44,000 - $49,000 annually, based on experience.
Schedule
Normal office environment, but the position does require travel.
