About the role

The Admission Counselor, reporting directly to the Admission Coordinator in the Office of Admissions, maintains a high level of internal and external public contact serving as a liaison between the Office of Admissions, various academic units, and other organizations within the University. This position contributes to UNLV’s core mission of increasing enrollment and promoting equitable student success by addressing systemic obstacles and implementing strategic services, programs, and support.

Responsibilities

• Conduct outreach efforts to recruit prospective undergraduate students, including admission presentations, workshops for students and families on navigating the application and admission process, and participation in recruitment events.
• Provide admission assistance and guidance to prospective students and families, including campus visits and proactive communication with admitted students to ensure matriculation.
• Make determinations regarding eligibility for admissions based on knowledge of records, transcripts, NSHE policies, and official documents.
• Recommend educational goals and admission requirements to potential students.
• Plan and manage recruitment activities in assigned territories, implementing communication initiatives for individualized engagement with prospective students.
• Identify potential barriers to recruiting and admitting new students, taking independent initiative to address them or recommending action to the Associate Director.
• Provide leadership in carrying out special initiatives as assigned by the Director or Associate Director of Recruitment.
• Travel both in and out of state and work irregular hours, especially during peak recruitment periods.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (must be obtained prior to the employment start date).
• 1–3 years of related professional experience.
• Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with valid auto insurance.

A Master’s degree may be substituted for 1 year of work experience.
