About the role

The Admission Counselor/Senior Admission Counselor position will assist with all aspects of the professional responsibilities of the Undergraduate Admissions office. General responsibilities include evaluating and making admission decisions on applications, assisting with the development of admission policies and procedures, managing and traveling in recruitment territories, counseling prospective students and families, planning and implementing special recruitment strategies, representing the University to high school counselors, alumni, and other external constituents, conducting appropriate follow-up via various communication methods, and assisting with the processing of applications for admission for both freshman and transfer applications.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating/Making Admission & Scholarship Decisions on Applications: Participate in all aspects of the application review process, including calculating cumulative GPA, analyzing course difficulty, determining competitiveness, and making decisions based on individual profiles and the University's mission.
  • Assists Operations Staff with Processing and Maintaining Applicant Records: Focus on completing applications and resolving issues within assigned territory.
  • Counseling Students and Conducting Info Sessions: Counsel prospective students and families about admission, financial aid, academic, and community life programs, and student life at the University. Conduct workshops for outreach groups and serve on panels to interpret admission practices.
  • Territory Management/Recruitment Travel: Plan and manage recruiting efforts, conduct presentations at high schools, attend college fairs, and coordinate visits, fairs, and receptions based on data and consultations.
  • Collateral Responsibilities: Assist with domestic and international transfer student advising, coordinate admission events, and perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Senior Admission Counselor: Bachelor’s degree with 3 years in college admission work experience required.
  • Admission Counselor: Bachelor’s degree with 1 year in college admission or relevant work experience required.
  • Qualifications: Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to the University's mission.

Skills

  • Knowledge of and willingness to learn and work with technology, specifically word processing environments, internet navigation, databases, and e-mail correspondence.
  • Social media experience is a plus.
