About the Role
The North Carolina Department of Revenue is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Specialist I (AS I) to work in the Central Examination Division’s Insurance Premium Tax and Reporting Unit. The primary purpose of this role is to assist with the administration of the State of NC insurance premium tax laws and regulations applicable to insurance organizations and the Insurance Regulatory Charge.
Responsibilities
- Update and maintain taxpayer information within the Insurance Premium database, including keying in of payments and tax returns
- Contact taxpayers by phone or written correspondence to obtain missing information needed to complete the processing of payments or tax returns
- Manage challenging or sensitive situations with courtesy, professionalism, and adherence to departmental guidelines
- Review and update 1099 NRS forms, ensuring completeness and accuracy in preparation for processing
- Contact closing attorneys by mail or phone for incomplete or missing information
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience using Microsoft Access Database
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
This position is subject to federal and state criminal background checks that may include fingerprinting and verification of tax compliance. "Tax compliance" is defined as having filed and paid all North Carolina State taxes owed each year leading up to the current calendar year or currently in a non-delinquent payment status with the State of North Carolina on taxes that are currently owed to the state.

Pay
Recruitment Range: $39,244 - $68,679
