Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about supporting services that make a real impact? We’re looking for a proactive and reliable Waiver Application Specialist (Administrative Specialist) in Omaha to join the Eligibility & Enrollment (E&E) unit within the Division of Developmental Disabilities at the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). As a Waiver Application Specialist, you'll play a key role in helping individuals and families across Nebraska gain access to Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) by managing the administrative processes that keep these programs running smoothly. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the day-to-day operations of the HCBS waiver application workflow
  • Review incoming applications and referrals for accuracy and completeness
  • Communicate with applicants or representatives to gather documentation and answer questions
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure proper assignment, tracking, and follow-up of cases
  • Maintain organized records, generate reports, and help identify process improvements
  • Interpret and apply relevant policies, guidelines, and regulations
  • Provide exceptional customer service to the public and providers seeking HCBS information

Requirements

  • Minimum: At least one year of post high school coursework or experience in administration, office management, accounting, finance, planning, policy analysis and implementation, administrative/management analysis, operations research, program evaluation, research, or similar fields or in a field related to the programs or functions of the employing agency.
  • Preferred: Experience working in a human services or Medicaid-related environment.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with state systems such as NFOCUS, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Preferred: Experience reviewing and tracking high volumes of documentation or applications.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of waiver programs or public assistance systems.
  • Some positions may require experience and/or training that is unique to the work assigned; a valid driver’s license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation; and/or criminal history background checks and other specific background check protocols for their agency.

  • Sharp attention to detail and accuracy
