Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time professional staff administrative and/or analytic experience.
  • Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time increasingly responsible sub-professional, para-professional, or professional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis (maximum four years).
  • Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in public administration, business administration, or other acceptable field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • One year of professional administrative services experience with the State of Tennessee.

Overview

Under general supervision, performs staff administrative work of average difficulty supporting line operations. This is the working level in the Admin Services Assistant sub-series, involving tasks such as:

  • Budget development and maintenance
  • Contract development and monitoring
  • Personnel administration
  • Research, planning, and information compilation
  • Procurement and property administration
  • Grant proposal review and monitoring
  • Forms design and report/correspondence preparation

This role differs from Admin Services Assistant 1 (entry-level, immediate supervision) and Admin Services Assistant 3 (greater scope, policy development, and supervision responsibilities).

Responsibilities

  • Performs general staff administrative duties to support program operations.
  • Prepares, reviews, and maintains records/reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Serves as liaison between the agency and the public, other state departments, officials, and external entities to explain procedures and regulations.
  • Interprets and enforces existing policies and recommends improvements.
  • Prepares and reviews operating budgets to assess agency needs.
  • Conducts grant administration and monitoring for compliance.
  • Researches fiscal, economic, legal, legislative, and publication-related information.
  • Handles human resources administration (e.g., employee relations, recruitment, training).
  • May assign work and train less experienced staff.

Monthly: $3,631.00 – $5,434.00

Driver Requirements

Positions involving driving require:

  • A valid driver’s license.
  • No record of the following in the past five years: DUI, reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than 4 moving violations.
