About the role
This position focuses on reducing the backlog of open cases for a dynamic, fast-paced business office on a fully funded program. The role involves performing a combination of technician and case management tasks.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the declassification process of documents related to Freedom of Information Act, Privacy Act, and Mandatory Declassification requests from start to finish.
- Perform case management duties including opening and closing of case files, creating cases, maintaining physical files, documenting all correspondence, and coordinating with Sponsor components to identify equities and other government agency equities.
- Support and work with the customer to set up and maintain a spreadsheet of open cases and determine case status in the workflow. Reach out to internal and external components or other government agencies to determine the status of pending document reviews with those offices/agencies.
- Organize documents for declassification review and assign them to the proper equity holders. Act as a liaison for all other components and other government agencies involved in the process.
- Write response letters and other memorandums explaining the Sponsor's decisions and ensure they are accurate and comply with federal statutes and Sponsor policies. Communicate both orally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage a high volume of cases of varying complexity. Conduct desktop research and analyze results to determine the relevance of new searches or whether requested records have been previously declassified and/or released.
- Record decisions in the Sponsor's automated systems or on hardcopy forms as required. Coordinate intra and inter-organizational referrals.
- Receive and ship classified and unclassified mail/packages weighing up to 10 lbs, including preparing and mailing final notifications to end users.
- Support the litigation unit by assembling final packages and ensuring all documentation is correct, with no classified material included in the correspondence and released/mailed.
- Perform the duties of a Data Transfer Officer (DTO) as necessary.

- Familiarity with classified information levels and restrictions.
- Experience working in a team environment and getting along well with people at all levels.
- Extensive knowledge in the use of MS Office, the Internet, and other internal applications necessary to complete routine and moderately complex tasks.
- Understanding of security requirements and ability to adhere to them.
- Previous experience supporting public information release programs or prior experience working with the Sponsor.
Qualifications/Education
- Bachelor degree from an accredited institution plus at least 2 years professional experience.
- Eight (8) years of experience (for a total of ten (10) or more years) may be substituted for a degree, with a high school diploma.
- Experience with E.O. 12958, Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act, with a successful track record of showing initiative and the desire for professional growth, will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Clearance Requirements
Must be a US Citizen and have an active TS/SCI clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph from day one of employment and be crossover eligible.
