About the role

The PTC Admin Tech reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.

Performs unit-based reception, clerical, and medical record functions. Is customer-oriented and communicates with all levels of staff, patients, and their families. Serves as a liaison between patient care units and all other departments. Works under the supervision of the RN/MD in delivering skilled and effective care to patients in the clinic setting.

Utilizes initiative and strives to maintain a steady level of productivity performing decentralized laboratory tests, specimen collection, EKGs, and other unit-specific skills. Provides basic patient care to non-critically ill patients and assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Reinforces teaching previously taught by the RN.

  • Communicates observed changes in patient status or responses to the RN promptly.
  • Prepares medical records for new admissions; disassembles and forwards charts to Medical Records upon discharge.
  • Obtains necessary patient and physician signatures; accurately transcribes physician orders and clinical data.
  • Enters and verifies orders in the computer to ensure timely delivery of supplies, equipment, and tests/services.
  • Reviews open and future orders reports to ensure complete, accurate patient charges.
  • Orders supplies and special equipment using recommended guidelines.
  • Generates, maintains, and prints forms, records, and tools necessary for patient care.
  • Faxes orders in a timely manner; notifies RN of missing MD order requirements.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies; is timely, accurate, up-to-date, complete, and legible.
  • Reports on the unit within 5 minutes of official start time; follows dress code and attendance policies.
  • Assists with house-wide and department-wide Quality Improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates computer competence for order entry, results, documentation, and policies.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly; cleans equipment according to standards.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stressful situations.
  • Answers telephone politely and communicates information appropriately.
  • Registers patients in the computer.
  • Performs basic patient care responsibilities, including vital signs, skin care, and personal care.
  • Maintains patient rooms in a clean and neat manner; keeps the environment presentable.
  • Supports daily schedule by expediting on-time starts and efficient patient progression.
  • Collects and labels specimens (tissue, urine, stool, sputum) accurately according to policy.
  • Identifies and transports blood/blood components and specimens using bloodborne pathogen precautions.
  • Follows standard precautions and NM infection control policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sterile techniques; assists with minor procedures, sterile skin preps, and dressing changes.
  • Assists in medical/health care error reporting and resolution.
  • Assists with patient admission, orientation, ambulation/positioning, discharge/transfer, and transport.
  • Performs phlebotomy according to NM policy and procedure.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment, and instrumentation; charges patients appropriately.
  • Participates in shared governance, committee work, or unit projects.
  • Attends at least 75% of departmental staff meetings annually.
  • Maintains education record and participates in annual competencies.
  • Identifies learning needs and goals; develops a plan to address them.
  • Demonstrates participation in continuing education activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within scope of practice.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • CERT BLS (Basic Life Support).
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to assess and determine situations requiring an interpreter and use interpreter services effectively.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare/medical office experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in additional languages.
