Job Summary/Basic Function
This faculty member teaches Wildland and Rural courses at the Escanaba campus.
Minimum Qualifications
- Meet NWCG Instructor Qualification Standards
- Minimum of five field seasons, or portions of seasons, working in a fireline position at a firefighter type 2 level (FFT2) or higher fireline qualification
- Experience as both a hand crew and engine crew member is preferred
- Fireline experience should be in both local/regional fire settings (upper Midwest) and western fire settings
- Single resource boss
- Prior training and experience as a trainer/instructor
- Commitment to quality instruction in a learner-centered environment with the goal of consistently improving student success
- Commitment to the community college mission and philosophy
- Ability to provide diverse teaching and learning approaches to diverse student populations
- Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communications
- Demonstrated literacy in information technology and computer use
- Willingness to learn and implement new teaching strategies as needed to enhance student success
- Commitment to value, respect, and provide an equitable learning experience in an inclusive, welcoming environment; standing against discrimination or harassment to educate all students regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran or military status, or other protected status
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Experience in teaching Fire Control at the secondary, postsecondary, industrial, or apprenticeship level
- Experience using learning management systems and video conferencing
