Responsibilities

  • Deliver class and/or clinical instruction according to an approved curriculum using accepted and effective teaching methods.
  • Supervise students in clinical settings, assessing their ability to apply classroom knowledge, master skills, communicate effectively, and plan patient care.
  • Develop daily lesson plans; advise, remediate, and tutor students; maintain current and accurate attendance and grade records; remain current in your teaching field.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional growth activities, and two (2) in-service training sessions annually.
  • Engage in college activities such as in-services, faculty meetings, student functions, graduation exercises, open houses, new student orientations, and advisory board meetings.
  • Strive for student success by providing quality instruction that results in students’ achievement of academic goals, program requirements, retention, and preparation for entry-level positions in healthcare.

Requirements

Your experience and education must align with one of the following options:

  • Option 1:
    • 2 years of nursing experience as an RN or LVN within the last 5 years.
    • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited school recognized by the DOE.
    • Completion of a course or courses in teaching from an approved school, or a California teaching certification, or at least one (1) year of full-time teaching experience in a state-accredited or approved nursing school within the last 5 years.
  • Option 2:
    • 6 years of combined nursing experience as an LVN and RN, or 6 years of experience as either.
    • Meet community college or state university educational minimums (ADN) for teaching requirements in California.

Qualifications

  • Current active California license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Current CPR Card.
