About the Role

Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair, or Program Director, the Adjunct Faculty Member is responsible for providing academic instruction to students for assigned graduate courses.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher-order thinking skills via assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and distance-mediated settings.
• Advise and instruct students on programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services and professionals as appropriate.
• Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide timely feedback to student inquiries.
• Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department and university mission/goals.
• Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, and learning outcomes; prepare and submit related data and reports in a timely manner.
• Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration with discipline faculty; order materials according to campus bookstore procedures.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from a recognized graduate institution or equivalent experience and professional recognition.
• Thorough and accurate knowledge in the subject field or discipline.
• Ability to deliver course curricula using various learning styles.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of university students, including those with disabilities.
• Ability to integrate current and emerging instructional technologies into the learning process.
• Maintain professional standards that protect student confidentiality.
• Effective oral and written communication skills with tact, patience, and courtesy.

Skills

• Current theory and practice within the subject discipline.

Working Environment

Pay

$32–$34.50 per hour.
