About the role

The adjunct faculty member will work with full-time faculty, under general supervision of the Associate Dean, in program and class-related duties such as classroom (including online) instruction, content design and delivery, and student evaluation for the SLCC Legal Studies department. Courses may include any subject in which the adjunct is qualified, at the 1000 or 2000 level. Classes are offered in daytime and evening hours at any SLCC campus, and could include weekends. Possible delivery modalities may include on site, online, and livestream. If online or livestream are assigned, the adjunct will be trained on the modality.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches courses at times and dates as assigned.
  • Is present, reliable, and prompt.
  • Is responsive, respectful, and available to students inside and outside the classroom.
  • Follows guidelines set forth by full time faculty.
  • Gives students prompt, courteous, respectful, and helpful feedback on their work.
  • Provides students with clear and fair expectations and grades accordingly.
  • Uses department-approved materials and syllabi for the courses taught.
  • Makes clear to students how assessments map to the course student learning outcomes.
  • Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
  • Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
  • Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
  • Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
  • Counsels students on academic issues.
  • Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance.
  • Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines.
  • Affords students access to resources and services.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
  • Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
  • Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 days).
  • Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
  • Completes all required employee trainings.
  • Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines.
  • Provides ADA accommodations as requested.
  • Communicates effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Works with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • Maintains professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment.
  • New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date.
  • Three (3) years non-teaching full-time (or full-time equivalent) work experience in law, paralegal or related field.
  • College level teaching/corporate training experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in technology-enhanced instruction.
  • Tech-savvy and innovative.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate OR Bachelors Degree in Paralegal Studies.
  • Related degrees and/or skills will be considered for procedural or non-legally based curriculum courses.

Pay

$1,056 per instructional unit.

Schedule

This position is paid on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.
