About the role

Under the supervision of the Dean of Natural Health & Science and the Director of the Surgical Technology Program, the Adjunct Instructor is responsible for teaching and supervising Surgical Technology students in laboratory and clinical settings.

Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Instruction:
    • Deliver high-quality instruction to students in the Surgical Technology Lab.
    • Prepare and clean lab facilities before and after each session.
    • Demonstrate surgical skills and assess student return demonstrations.
    • Evaluate student progress and provide feedback after lab practical exams.
    • Participate in skills assessment reviews and maintain accurate student records.
    • Engage in continuing professional development to maintain current expertise.
  • Clinical Instruction:
    • Serve as a liaison between Quincy College and clinical affiliates.
    • Track student attendance, evaluations, and issue clinical warnings when necessary.
    • Coordinate with clinical sites to ensure students meet case and rotation requirements.
    • Provide mentorship, feedback, and support to students in clinical settings.
    • Maintain communication with the Clinical Director and attend required meetings.
    • Uphold patient and student safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Current certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent operating room experience as a practicing Surgical Technologist or Instructor.
  • Must maintain certification in CPR, current immunizations, and other health requirements.
  • Membership in the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) required.
  • Experience teaching or training in a diverse academic environment preferred.

Science

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Completion of Quincy College’s teaching certification program (Canvas, Quality Matters, Canvas Studio) or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform all essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
