Summary Of Responsibilities
- Design and teach assigned Sociology courses in alignment with program and institutional goals.
- Plan, prepare, and follow approved course outlines that include measurable learning objectives.
- Develop and maintain instructional materials such as syllabi, assignments, exams, and supplemental resources.
- Instruct, manage, and engage students in classroom and/or online settings using effective and inclusive teaching methods.
- Evaluate student learning through appropriate testing, assignments, and other assessments.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and accountability; submit required reports in a timely manner.
- Recommend students for advancement and graduation as appropriate.
- Support student success by providing guidance, mentorship, and referrals to campus resources as needed.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to support the effectiveness of the Sociology program.
- Participate in department and university committees and attend required meetings.
- Adhere to academic freedom and professional responsibility policies.
- Maintain a safe and respectful classroom environment.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in Sociology or a closely related area and two years of teaching or closely related professional experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in Sociology, or a closely related area, AND one year of teaching or closely related experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Strong understanding of Sociology subject matter, theories, and course content, including contemporary social issues and research methods.
- Skilled in applying effective teaching strategies and techniques to engage and support learners with various needs in classroom or online settings.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships, solve problems, and make informed decisions in an academic environment.
- Able to motivate, guide, and evaluate students, while fostering a respectful learning environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex sociological concepts clearly to students.
