Adjunct Instructor - Secondary Education Music

About the Role

The Department of Music at Utah Valley University is seeking qualified adjunct instructors to teach courses in Secondary Education Music and other areas of the music curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses such as Private Instruction, Ensemble Conducting/Coaching, Group Classes, Introduction to Music, American Popular Music, Theory, Aural Skills, Music History, Music Technology, Composition, Music Education, or other music curriculum courses based on specialty and department need.
• Plan and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught.
• Prepare instructional materials and evaluate instruction and learning using written, oral, practical, and performance tests.
• Maintain a student-oriented approach to teaching.
• Participate in auditions, juries, and master classes as needed.
• Submit student grades and all requested departmental materials in a timely manner.
• Attend required department and/or program meetings.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in the subject matter or a closely related area, or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or Doctorate degree.

Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of subject matter and course content of courses taught.
• Knowledge of best practices in instructional strategies and techniques.
• Knowledge of current trends in education.
• Skill in choreography and performance.
• Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives.
• Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations of students.
