Adjunct Instructor, Psychology and/or Lifespan Development for Nursing

Manhattanville University is seeking an adjunct professor to teach in-person courses during the Fall semester (August 31 - December 18). Preferred meeting dates are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Candidates may apply to teach one or both of the following courses. Future employment may be possible if the Fall semester is successful.

About the role

• Prepare and deliver well-organized classes aligned with student learning outcomes.
• Create and share syllabus/syllabi with students and the Dean's Office, posting them on the University's Learning Management Software (LMS), Brightspace.
• Post assignment grades in Brightspace for students to track academic progress.
• Hold two hours of office hours per week (in-person or online).
• Use Manhattanville email for all correspondence; respond to emails in a timely manner.
• Submit Roster Reconciliations, Mid-Term, and Final Grades by deadlines.
• File Retention Alerts for student concerns as needed.
• Uphold faculty duties as outlined in Section V of the Faculty Handbook and be familiar with the College Catalog.

Course Descriptions

PSY.1004 Fundamentals of Psychology

This course introduces students to major ideas in psychology. No prior knowledge is expected. Topics include the history of psychology, sensation and perception, brain and behavior, learning, memory, cognition, developmental psychology, personality, social psychology, and psychopathology.

PSY.1100 Lifespan Development for Nursing

This course examines the interdependency of physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development across the human lifespan, from conception to death. It explores the impact of context and culture on the eight stages of development, integrates research methods and key developmental theorists, and discusses the lifespan perspective as an integrative approach.

Requirements

• Graduate degree in Psychology.
• Previous teaching experience.
• Subject matter expertise in psychology.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Familiarity with Brightspace or a similar LMS.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment.

Pay

$3,375 - $3,675 per semester.

Schedule

• Teaching time: 2.5 hours per week.
• Office hours: 2 hours per week.
