Adjunct Instructor of Music: Voice

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Weekly private lessons
  • Facilitating a positive culture within the music department
  • Preparing students for juries, recitals, and ensemble performances
  • Working with students to attain the required level of performance proficiency within a multi-year, developmental curriculum
  • Helping recruit students
  • Attending juries and recitals to provide realistic assessments of student performances
  • Possible assignment to teach additional courses in the area of expertise

Essential Functions

  • Ensure an environment that promotes student safety
  • Work collaboratively with the music department to monitor progress and eligibility of all students, establish programs and program performance requirements
  • Work with the Coordinator of Choirs on recruiting activities and school visits, master class/guest artist visits, and assisting with summer camps and workshops
  • Cultivate positive relationships with students and their families
  • Develop a positive relationship with and play an active role in university and community events and programs
  • Establish connections to high school choir programs, TMEA, and TCDA
  • Work collaboratively with Student Services and Residence Life staff with respect to student needs and any issues related to student behavior

Education, Experience and Skills Required

  • Master of Music degree, or a minimum of 18 graduate hours in music; doctorate preferred
  • Knowledge of overall operations of a successful vocal music program
  • Experience in identifying and recruiting students
  • Plan to establish connections to high school choir programs, TMEA, and TBA
  • Firm commitment to a student-centered culture and the academic success of students are essential
  • Excellent computer, written and oral communication skills
