Position Information

The Nursing Skills Lab – Adjunct Faculty position provides support to nursing students during scheduled open laboratory hours. This position is responsible for assisting students in the development and refinement of clinical competencies, supporting course success, and reinforcing safe nursing practices. The individual in this role facilitates hands-on skills practice, supports dosage calculation competency, and assists with clinical coursework, including care plans and related assignments. This position promotes critical thinking, clinical judgment, and professional behaviors through guided practice, simulation, and individualized student support.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrate a desire to work with students and to assist them in the achievement of the program and course student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain appropriate expertise in the field of Nursing through continuing professional development.
  • Build meaningful relationships and collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written formats, tailored to diverse audiences and contexts.
  • Manage multiple students with different learning styles in the open lab space efficiently.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate a strong sense of initiative.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing education
  • Prior experience in clinical instruction or laboratory teaching
  • Familiarity with the NCLEX test plan and nursing education standards

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials up to 25 pounds with proper equipment; reasonable accommodations available.
  • Requires mobility to demonstrate and assist with clinical procedures.
  • Light physical activity required; must be able to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment, and communicate effectively in various formats.
  • Primarily daytime hours with some evening and weekends to support the different nursing sections.
