Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach Play Production, Introduction to Theatre, and/or Lighting Design.
  • Teach Theatre production course or courses as assigned by the Chair of the School of Music and Theatre.
  • Utilize innovative and collaborative teaching methods in support of the Department’s mission and learning objectives.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned/as outlined in the Faculty Manual.

    Desired Attributes and Qualifications

    • Education and Professional Experience: Master’s Degree in Theatre or related field; College-level teaching experience.
    • Preferred Education and Experience: Student centered pedagogy; Evidence of teaching effectiveness; Two-years teaching experience.
    • Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to relate to a diverse cross-section of individuals; Demonstrated strong commitment to student centered active learning and student engagement activities; Demonstrated experience, knowledge and appreciation for a liberal arts tradition; Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills; Demonstrated work ethic that promotes teamwork, enhances creativity and motivation, and builds consensus in a high-energy and high-task environment; Ability to manage several projects simultaneously; Fluency on production equipment, programs and design components to empower classroom and production instruction; Respect and sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of a diverse student body; Fluency in production programs and equipment such as Qlab, Sound, and lighting boards.

    Tools and Equipment Used

    • Knowledge of operation and use of various office equipment including, but not limited to: personal computer, including spreadsheet and word processing software, integrated database software, fax machine, copier, telephone, scanner, and printers.
    • A valid driver’s license may be required.
    • Variety of instructional technologies including, but not limited to Google Suite, Canvas LMS, video conferencing, etc.
    • Theatre production programs such as Qlab, Sound, and lighting boards.

    Physical Demands

    • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in a classroom setting, as well as Gundlach Theatre.
    • The noise level in the work environment will range from moderately quiet to occasionally loud.
    • The lighting level in the work environment will range from black to strobe lights.
