About the Role

As an Adjunct Instructor in Construction Trades, you'll design and teach courses that help students develop the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional habits needed for success in the construction industry. Through classroom instruction, laboratory experiences, and applied learning activities, you'll make a direct impact on student growth while helping prepare a highly skilled workforce for the region and beyond. This role offers the flexibility to remain connected to the construction trades profession while contributing to higher education. You'll create engaging instructional materials, supervise hands-on laboratory activities, assess student learning, and support student success through meaningful mentorship and guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Design and teach courses in the field of study.
  • Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
  • Prepare instructional materials (course outlines, syllabus, exams, mock-ups, visual aids, and lab materials) as necessary.
  • Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in laboratories using appropriate teaching methods.
  • Evaluate instruction and learning by means of appropriate testing methods.
  • Maintain a student-oriented approach to education.
  • Maintain and submit accurate, up-to-date reports and records on student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited business college with an associate of applied science degree in the subject matter or a closely related area.
  • Five years of teaching or closely related professional experience.

Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of subject matter and course content of classes to be taught, instructional strategies, and techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
  • Extensive knowledge of the evaluation of instruction, curriculum development, program development, and evaluation.
  • Thorough knowledge of the appropriate field of study.
  • Thorough knowledge of counseling and advising techniques.
  • Knowledge of work experience programs (if appropriate for assignment).
  • Skill in public speaking and report writing.
  • Effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
  • Ability to apply general principles effectively to specific conditions.
  • Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively with people.
