Description
The purpose of this position is to provide instruction for entry-level truck drivers on the operation of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) in preparation for the knowledge, inspection, basic controls and road examinations, as required for a CDL “Class A” license. Moreover, it is the responsibility of this position to provide and teach to a curriculum that covers classroom and online instruction (Theory), field instruction (Range), and highway training (Behind-the-Wheel) that meets those requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Additional Responsibilities
- Online class preparation and instruction in Moodle while providing support services to students, monitoring student progress and providing assistance when needed, and maintaining grades.
- Hosts an orientation session to familiarize students with Moodle and to acquaint them with the rules and regulations governing the course as well as general expectations.
- Assists students in scheduling their drug screening, DOT physical, and commercial learner’s permit examination.
- Schedules all four examinations (knowledge, inspection, basic controls and road) at the DMV for obtaining a CDL “Class A” license when range and behind-the-wheel training concludes.
Essential Duties
- Delivers classroom and online instruction (Theory), field instruction (Range), and highway training (Behind-the-Wheel).
- Prepares students to pass the knowledge, inspection, basic controls and road examinations needed for a CDL “Class A” license.
- Leads orientation for those students entering the program.
- Prepares online instruction for theory training through Moodle.
- Maintains an online classroom presence in Moodle and provides online support services to students.
- Aids students in scheduling their drug screening, DOT physical, and commercial learner’s permit exam.
- Conducts evaluations and testing of students in accordance with state and federal code.
- Maintains grade and attendance records for all areas of instruction.
- Records and maintains all necessary documents for state and federal compliance.
- Works with the DMV to schedule all student testing for acquiring a CDL “Class A” license.
- Oversees the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with PCC policies and guidelines.
Typical Qualifications
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent;
- Must meet all instructor requirements defined in title 49, part 380.605 of the Code of Federal Regulations for entry-level trainers.
Licenses and Certificates
- Ability to obtain/maintain a class II CDL Class A instructor license for the state of North Carolina.
