About the role
Wake Technical Community College is seeking adjunct faculty to teach Education/Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes in the College and Career Readiness Division (CCR).
Responsibilities
- Creates and executes daily lesson plans based on the NC Adult Basic Education content standards which focus on basic literacy in reading, writing, math and technology.
- Employ current teaching methodologies that address student needs and provide interactive, contextualized instruction with an emphasis on workplace and post-secondary skills.
- Performs routine administrative functions of the classroom including enforcing student attendance policy, ensuring student access to virtual classes, communicating regularly with students enrolled in virtual classes, ensuring accurate attendance documentation, etc.
- Learns and implements technology to enhance instruction in a seated and online environment.
- Participates in scheduled Professional Development and staff meetings.
- Participates in student retention activities, including contacting students through email, phone calls and direct mail.
- Works with Instructional Program Specialists, Advisors, and the Advising Center to identify students who need additional support and/or who want to continue their post-secondary education.
- Arrives prior to the start of class and teaches for the duration of the contract.
Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor's degree.
- Requires 6 months classroom teaching experience in reading, writing, and math skills.
- Must be able to develop original lesson plans for a classroom setting that incorporate contextualized instruction or real-life/authentic materials that assist students with skills and information needed to transition into employment or post-secondary education.
- Must have a working knowledge of computers, especially use of the internet, Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule including morning, afternoon, and evening hours.

- Excellent oral, written and listening skills.
- Self-directed, organized, task and detail oriented and flexible.
- Able to demonstrate a variety of instructional techniques and methods.
- Creates and executes quality interactive contextualized daily lesson plans.
- Proficiency in use of the internet, Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.

- Prefer adult education teaching experience.
- Prefer experience in both face to face and virtual instruction and demonstrated use of technology (power point, LCD projectors, or internet based activities) into instruction in both environments.
