Major Responsibilities
- Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
- Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
- Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.
- Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
- Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
- Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
- Safeguards knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.
Retention and Student Success
- Provides academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.
- Makes regular documentation of student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provides necessary interventions such as communication with students, tutoring, and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
- Maintains posted office hours and student engagement hours in accordance with campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2).
- Promotes and assists in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed academic preparation appropriate to the course(s) being taught.
- Holds an Indiana EMT or higher certification.
- Has two years of directly related work experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Holds an associate degree or higher in Paramedic Science or related field.
- Holds an Indiana State Paramedic License.
- Holds an Indiana Department of Homeland Security Primary Instructor certification.
- Holds an AHA Instructor certification in BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS.
- Holds an NAEMT Instructor certification in PHTLS and/or AMLS.
