About the Role

Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) is seeking applicants for adjunct faculty appointments, including Doctoral Capstone Mentors, for its new hybrid Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program. This 2-year accelerated program combines online and on-campus teaching, allowing adjunct faculty to work remotely with only lab-based courses requiring travel to the OBU campus in Shawnee, OK at various times throughout the year. The start date for this position varies based on programmatic needs.

Qualifications

  • Occupational therapy degree (MOT, MSOT, etc.) from an ACOTE-accredited program.
  • Current, valid non-restricted occupational therapy license.
  • Oklahoma (OK) state occupational therapy license or eligibility for licensure in OK.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as an occupational therapy practitioner.
  • A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in occupational therapy or a similar program in higher education.
  • Earned doctoral degree or advancing toward an earned doctoral degree from an accredited program (OTD, EdD, PhD, ScD, etc.) – required for Capstone Mentor.
  • Clinical experience in neurological conditions, psychosocial conditions, pediatrics, geriatrics, musculoskeletal conditions, physical impairments/disabilities, orthotics, physical agent modalities, health and wellness, and/or use of technologies in OT practice (preferred).
  • Advanced certifications, specializations, and/or credentials in the field of practice (preferred).
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching strategies in education (preferred).
  • Teaching experience in a hybrid format (preferred).
  • Hybrid/Online Teaching Certification (preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills and strong computer skills to meet the needs of the hybrid instructional format.
  • Appreciation of best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Competence in integrating technology within the classroom and building a student-centered community in the online learning space.
  • Must be a member of a local evangelical Christian church.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of new courses delivered in a hybrid format.
  • Create and conduct in-person lab immersions and experiential learning opportunities for students in alignment with the program’s curriculum design.
  • Engage in both asynchronous and synchronous classroom activities, including leading synchronous sessions.
  • Maintain a minimum of 2 hours of office hours per week for student needs.
  • Capstone Mentor Only:
    • Commit to a 1-year (January – December) term, consisting of 1 course each semester.
    • Participate in capstone courses as indicated by the Director of Capstone.
    • Provide mentorship to students throughout the doctoral capstone process, including development, implementation, and presentation of the capstone project.
    • Travel to campus for onsite capstone mentorship 2-3 times per year.
  • Participate in faculty meetings as appropriate during the term of teaching.
  • Assist in the accreditation process and serve on program committees as needed.

Skills & Equipment

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite tools (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, etc.) as well as Zoom and other online meeting platforms.
  • Experience with online learning management software (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).

Physical Requirements

  • Possess strength, range of motion, and fine/gross motor coordination to demonstrate mobility, self-care, assessments, and interventions.
  • Perform tasks requiring standing, sitting, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Push, pull, or lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance if needed.
  • Tolerate 3–4 hours of continuous activity with minimal breaks and full 8–10 hour days with rest breaks for hands-on lab immersions.

Evangelical is a broad term referring to a segment within Christianity that maintains the authority of the Bible and the belief in salvation by faith in Jesus alone.
