About the role

The Adjunct Medical Assistant Instructor will instruct and facilitate meaningful learning that aligns with course outcomes in the curriculum. This position supports a learning-centered environment, enabling graduates to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare industry.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the educational process to provide every student with a positive and engaging learning experience.
  • Deliver instruction in accordance with South University’s curriculum model and system delivery style.
  • Develop instructional plans and activities that meet course outcomes and lesson objectives.
  • Use technology effectively in the classroom to enhance the student learning experience.
  • Establish and maintain student performance standards and evaluation methods.
  • Foster a learning-centered environment through effective planning, preparation, and class engagement.
  • Encourage student success with flexibility, passion for teaching, and active participation.
  • Maintain accurate records, grades, and attendance while enforcing academic and attendance policies.
  • Integrate real-world, industry-based experiences into classroom instruction.
  • Participate in faculty development programs to enhance instructional skills and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate and communicate consistently with supervisors, faculty peers, and administrators.
  • Contribute to university initiatives, including orientations, graduations, workshops, and committee participation.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field (preferably Nursing, Physician Assistant, or Healthcare Management).
  • Certification: Current CMA, RMA, or CCMA certification required.
  • Experience: Clinical and administrative medical office experience, including billing and coding. Minimum of six months of post-secondary teaching experience (preferred).
  • Membership in a professional healthcare or education association (preferred).
  • Knowledge of best practices in medical assisting and healthcare education.
  • Skills: Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Excellent time management, organization, and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS).

  • Academic Knowledge: Understanding of university guidelines, course design, and curriculum development.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in digital media creation and LMS use.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze, evaluate, and solve problems effectively.

  • Interpersonal: Able to communicate effectively and foster student engagement.
  • Time Management: Capable of prioritizing and completing tasks efficiently.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy and completeness in all work.
  • Teaching Ability: Communicates course material clearly and supports diverse learners. Demonstrates fairness, compassion, and responsiveness to students.
