Adjunct Faculty Instructor-Dental Hygiene

About the Role

Diablo Valley College (DVC) in Pleasant Hill seeks adjunct faculty for its Dental Hygiene Program. The primary teaching assignment includes theory and clinical instruction to help students achieve entry-level competencies in dental hygiene. Courses may include Clinical Dental Hygiene, Head and Neck Anatomy, and Local Anesthesia. Faculty must maintain current knowledge in their subject areas and employ effective educational methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction according to established curriculum, course outlines, and schedules.
• Create a learning environment that encourages free discussion, critical thinking, and student engagement.
• Evaluate student progress and grade assignments.
• Meet with students outside of class for additional support.
• Maintain professional conduct, ethics, and accurate academic records.
• Stay updated on subject matter and educational best practices.
• Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Any bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience.
• Compliance with California Code of Regulations Title 16, Section 1105.1 (Dental Hygiene Board of California).
• Current, valid, and active California license as a dentist, dental hygienist, or dental hygienist in alternative practice, or a special permit with no disciplinary actions.
• Current BLS certification.

Desirable Qualifications

• Direct patient care experience within the previous five years (2 years of patient care or 1 academic year of clinical teaching).
• Documented background in current educational methodology and faculty calibration for clinical evaluation.
• Graduate of a CODA-accredited dental or dental hygiene program.

Pay

Adjunct instructor classroom faculty pay rate is $77.87–$128.97 per hour (up to $151.16).

Schedule

Employment begins Spring 2027.
