About the role

Massachusetts Bay Community College seeks qualified Adjunct Faculty members to teach courses in Health Careers Exploration, Medical Terminology, and/or Soft Skills for Medical Professionals. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a varied student population.

Responsibilities

  • Teach students in a classroom or online environment, following required protocols and procedures, and following the curriculum;
  • Develop content for the course;
  • Collaborate with program officials on students’ academic progress and needs;
  • Participate in the assessment of course and program learning outcomes;
  • Provide an engaging learning environment;
  • Communicate effectively, assess students objectively, and work as part of a team;
  • Stay current with professional development activities;
  • Use the College’s technology platforms or the High School’s technology platforms to effectively communicate with students and colleagues to enhance the learning, as appropriate;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and collaboration;
  • Deliver course content in a learner-centered environment that promotes student engagement and success;
  • Communicate effectively and consistently with students, faculty, and administrators;
  • Respond to communications within established timelines, typically within 24 hours;
  • Grade assignments and assess student performance in a timely manner;
  • Provide substantive and constructive feedback to support student learning and development;
  • Maintain accurate and timely submission of clinical evaluations, attendance records, and final grades;
  • Manage course-related responsibilities in accordance with departmental and institutional requirements;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean/Assistant Dean.

Requirements

  • Master's degree relevant to teaching any of the courses listed in the 'Courses and Programs' description above, or at least 5 years of directly related professional experience in the field, may be substituted for the advanced degree;
  • Current unrestricted certification in a given health field, as needed;
  • A minimum of two years of recent work experience in a health-related or relevant work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action;
  • Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Presentation experience preferred;
  • Commitment to maintaining current knowledge and competencies within the healthcare field;
  • Ability to objectively assess and evaluate student performance;
  • Bilingual language skills;
  • Certified/credentialed in medical assistant, phlebotomy, or higher;
  • Formal experience teaching courses in the “Courses and Programs” list above.
