About the Role

The Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for adjunct faculty positions within the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering. Applicants with expertise in solid mechanics, dynamics and control, energy systems, and mechatronics are particularly encouraged to apply.

WVU is designated an R1 University (Highest Research Activity) by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The Statler College encompasses seven academic departments, over 3,200 students, and 135 faculty members. The Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) includes 30 faculty members, approximately 600 undergraduate and 100 graduate students, with annual research expenditures exceeding $14 million.

The department emphasizes experiential learning, achieving top placements in national and international student competitions, such as Experimental Rocketry, EcoCAR, and robotics. The WVU Robotics program has won 9 national or international competitions since 2011 and $900K in prizes from NASA Centennial Challenges.

The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, graduate programs in Materials Science Engineering, and a new Bachelor of Science in Robotics Engineering starting Fall 2024, in partnership with the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.

Morgantown is located within a high-technology corridor that includes federal research facilities such as NASA’s Katherine Johnson Independent Verification and Validation Facility (IV&V), the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Responsibilities

• Teach and develop a variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Perform professional service activities within and outside the university.

Requirements

• Earned Doctorate degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, robotics engineering, or a closely related field at the time of appointment.
• Demonstrated ability or potential to teach and develop courses.
• Effective communication skills.

Qualifications

A notable record of past teaching experiences and scholarly activity is preferred.
