VCU’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics has more than 60 full-time faculty, 15 master’s students, 50 Ph.D. students, and about 200 undergraduate majors. Faculty are active researchers and committed teachers who publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and collaborate broadly within the mathematical, statistical, and scientific communities.

About the role

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is recruiting a pool of adjunct faculty to teach upcoming semester course sections. Applications will remain active until June 2027. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. While any course may have a need, the department most frequently requires adjunct instructors for introductory 100–200 level courses. All instruction is in-person in Richmond, Virginia.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all designated course instruction guidelines.
  • Attend course coordination and department meetings as your schedule permits.
  • Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner based on provided instructions and rubrics.
  • Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours.
  • Submit final grades according to College and Department policies.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a related field with specialized expertise in mathematics.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience.

Qualifications

  • PhD or other doctoral degree in a related discipline is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching courses within the Department.

Pay

$1,487 per credit hour.
