Adjunct Faculty, Community Language Courses

About the role

The Center for World Languages and Cultures (CWLC) at the University of Denver seeks instructors for Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese community language courses during the academic year of 2026/2027. These non-credit language courses will expand the current Community Language Courses Portfolio offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 1 to 2 courses per session based on needs: one course at the novice level and one for learners with more experience.
  • Teach 10-week courses on Zoom with one weekly session of 90 minutes.
  • Communicate with learners via Canvas and email.
  • Prepare activities that promote interpersonal communication among learners.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or ABD in language to be taught, in Second Language Acquisition, or in Education. Closely related fields will be given consideration as well.
  • Native or near-native fluency in language to be taught and English.
  • 1-2 years of previous teaching experience, especially with adult learners.
  • Evidence of a commitment to engage diverse student populations effectively.
  • Evidence of teaching using task-based, communicative methodologies which prioritize student-student interactions.
  • Experience or willingness to learn course management systems such as Canvas.
  • Availability to teach online while residing in Colorado.

Benefits

  • The standard pay for Community Language Courses can range between $900 and $2,550 depending on course enrollment.

Schedule

  • 10-week sessions with 90-minute classes held after 4 pm, either on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
