About the role
The primary functions of this position are to provide clinical supervision, treat dental patients, and supervise and instruct students in various clinical and lab settings.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical supervision and legal treatment of dental patients.
- Direct patient evaluation and treatment, including treatment planning, oral exams, head and neck cancer screenings, local anesthesia, amalgam/composite restorations, and radiographic interpretation.
- Maintain regular attendance at work and meet all course, laboratory, and clinical requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of the discipline through professional development and education.
- Comply with policies and accreditation standards, including those set by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and the Florida Board of Dentistry.
- Participate in meetings, seminars, and workshops to stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
- Supervise and provide clinical instruction, ensuring students learn effectively using evidence-based practices.
- Organize and maintain course-related data, including attendance, records, grades, exams, and student evaluations.
- Use computer skills (Microsoft Office, Eaglesoft Practice Management System, CAESY) to deliver clinical and laboratory components.
- Collaborate with colleagues, businesses, advisory committees, and educational partners.
- Provide availability for meetings with allied dental students as outlined in the GCSC Adjunct Faculty Handbook.
- Propose adjustments to courses and clinics based on assessment outcomes.
- Engage in self-evaluation and performance planning annually.
- Provide patient treatment as scheduled and supervise student participation as required.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Dental Medicine degree or equivalent from an ADA accredited institution.
- Completed (or willing to complete) course work in educational methodology to satisfy accreditation standards.
- 3-4 years relevant experience; previous teaching experience preferred.
- License to practice Dentistry (DMD/DDS) - current license in good standing; Florida license preferred.
- Current Certificate - Controlled Substance Registration/Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) preferred (or willing to obtain).
- Certification for Nitrous Oxide Administration (preferred).
- Current CPR certification (Health Care Provider).
