Adjunct Faculty - Business Law

Starting salary varies based on assigned instructor level, education, and experience. This is a part-time, adjunct faculty position with no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

About the Role

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in Business Law to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include face-to-face, remote, and online formats. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours during the summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. Must reside in the DC, VA, or MD area.

Responsibilities

• Teach specific classes in Business Law.
• Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
• Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
• Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).
• Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization.
• Meet assigned classes regularly and submit required records and reports.
• Teach prescribed courses of study with established texts.
• Adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in the teaching field or master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours of coursework in the teaching field (e.g., business administration, business management, or law).
• Degrees and coursework must be awarded by and/or completed with a regionally accredited institution.
• A minimum of two years of full-time occupational experience related to and/or directly in the coursework to be taught (part-time experience will be converted to its full-time equivalent).
• Must be available to teach in person in the evenings and/or weekends.
• Must have weekday, daytime, evening, and weekend availability to teach.

Qualifications

• Ability to teach courses in Business Law.
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
• Ability to use instructional technology.
• Prior experience teaching in higher education (preferred).
• Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats (preferred).
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment (preferred).
• Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency (preferred).
