Adjunct Faculty - Bioversity, Introductory Lab Operations

Responsibilities

  • Translate real-world lab workflows into practical, job-ready training
  • Teach on-site in Dorchester, two days a week for 3-hour blocks between 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
  • Deliver engaging, hands-on training sessions focused on day-to-day lab operations
  • Teach lab safety and PPE in real-world environments
  • Teach equipment use and maintenance (freezers, CO₂ incubators, LN₂ systems, etc.)
  • Teach sample handling and storage workflows
  • Teach receiving, inventory management, and material tracking
  • Teach SOP execution and documentation practices
  • Facilitate practical exercises and simulations aligned to real lab scenarios
  • Provide feedback to students regarding the subject matter and the professional skills needed to be hired and perform well in the workplace
  • Administer effective assessments in a variety of formats on the key learning concepts
  • Identify tactics to improve the course based on feedback from its initial delivery

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in laboratory operations, facilities, or support functions within biotech, pharma, or research environments
  • Experience translating complex lab environments into clear, accessible concepts for entry-level learners
  • Experience facilitating practical exercises and simulations aligned to real lab scenarios
  • Experience providing feedback to students regarding the subject matter and professional skills needed
  • Experience administering effective assessments in a variety of formats
  • Experience identifying tactics to improve the course based on feedback from its initial delivery

Qualifications

  • Non-traditional adult learners preparing to enter the biotech workforce
  • Workforce training for MassBio’s Bioversity program
  • 8-week, noncredit program
  • Entry-level roles in biotechnology lab operations
