Location: Danvers/Lynn, MA • Part-time adjunct position • Start date: Fall 2026 semester

About the role

The STEM and Business Division invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach introductory Biology (BIO101: Biology 1 – The Basics of Life) beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. Current openings may be at our Danvers or Lynn campuses. Assignments may include daytime or evening classes on campus or at regional high schools. Other biology courses may become available in future semesters.

BIO101 is an introduction to the basic principles of biology, covering the chemistry of the cell, cell structure and function, cell division, genetics, and some evolution. The laboratory component is designed to enhance lecture material and develop investigative skills (3 hours of lecture, 2 hours of lab per week).

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned lecture and laboratory sections.
  • Prepare course syllabi, proctor and grade assessments for both lecture and lab, report final student grades, and complete student alerts by specified deadlines.
  • Develop and apply assessment strategies that maximize learning and measure student outcomes.
  • Embrace and advance the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned under the collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Biology or a related field with graduate-level credit in the subject area.
  • Evidence of commitment to and experience working with a diverse student body.
  • Knowledge of current laboratory safety practices in a teaching laboratory setting.
  • Evidence of successful prior science teaching in higher education.
  • Must pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Community College teaching experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Blackboard or similar Learning Management System.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay

Minimum salary is $1,397 per credit hour; actual salary is determined by the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement.
