About the role
Kirkwood Community College's Social Sciences Department seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our department to teach various courses onsite. These are face-to-face sections at the Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa (Coralville).
Responsibilities
- Provide face-to-face instruction in discipline
- Work with other faculty members to develop a course syllabus and consistent assessments
- Communicate with department staff, students, and faculty on a regular basis
- Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback on a regular basis
- Utilize the Kirkwood Learning Management System to post course syllabi and relevant documents and provide access to student grade book
- Regularly engage in professional development activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in criminal justice; OR master’s degree with a minimum of 12 credit hours in criminal justice
- Previous experience in face-to-face instruction at a community college
- Prior use of a learning management system
Benefits
The position involves occasional driving to events and meetings away from KCC’s main campus.
Pay
$1,314 per credit hour.
Schedule
Primary teaching schedule may include one of the following sections:
- Fall 2026 (August 24, 2026 - December 2026): Linn County Regional Education Center, Hiawatha, Iowa - Intro to Criminal Justice; Jones County Regional Education Center, Monticello Iowa - Intro to Criminal Justice; Kirkwood Regional Center at University of Iowa (KRCUI), Coralville, IA - Intro to Criminal Justice (Monday and Wednesday 7:30-9:00 a.m.)
- Spring 2027 (January - May 2027): Performance Expectations - Effective instruction and communication material for the course; Establish and maintain a good working relationship with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and the general public; Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
