About the Role
This is a work-from-home position within Pearson’s Teaching Services department, open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Our state-certified virtual teachers manage online instructional programs for students across the country and around the globe, ensuring each student successfully completes their program through regular communication and support.
Responsibilities
- Support the instructional program with synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions using Class Zoom.
- Complete all grading by providing prompt, high-quality, personalized feedback on assignments.
- Communicate regularly with students and other teachers to update pacing plans and schedules as required.
- Use data to monitor student progress and facilitate interactions that encourage consistent engagement with the course(s).
- Review curriculum and modify courses to promote student achievement, including accommodations for IEPs or 504 plans.
- Consult with team members and administrators to develop alternate enrichment activities and lesson modifications for struggling or at-risk students.
- Develop a general knowledge of the curriculum and detailed expertise in the assigned courses.
- Communicate with students via phone, Chat, and WebMail systems.
- Adhere to policies protecting students' well-being and personal information, including FERPA and Copyright & Fair Use laws.
- Maintain up-to-date records of student performance, participation, and contacts with students/parents.
- Hold regular office hours (minimum of 3 hours per week).
- Utilize various communication tools to build relationships and promote student success with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Foster a welcoming and supportive online community for students and families.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Highly qualified and certified to teach Business with a valid state teaching certificate in TX, MI, or PA.
- Must have completed a traditional teacher preparation program at an accredited college or university (no alternative certification).
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Ability to obtain certification in other states as requested.
- Proven ability to provide timely feedback and grade assessments within required timeframes.
- Attend check-in meetings with your supervisor twice per month (or as scheduled).
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with flexibility, effective prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.
- Understanding of IEP/504 plans and their implementation in a virtual setting.
- Strong technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Apps.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
- Customer-focused approach with a commitment to student achievement.
