About the role

The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is seeking dynamic, motivated, and diverse candidates for part-time ESL Instructor positions for the 2026 Academic School Year. The purpose of this posting is to establish a pool of qualified candidates. When a campus has an opening, the hiring location will review the applications in the pool and contact the selected applicants directly.

Responsibilities

• Teach ESL to promote engaging and inclusive educational environments that support student learning.
• Collaborate, communicate, and work as professionals with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
• Engage in culturally responsive interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities, and ethnicities.
• Conduct classes in a virtual learning environment using CANVAS or other methods of remote learning.

Requirements

• Master's degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis; OR;
• Bachelor's degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate; or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master's degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, or any foreign language.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Qualifications

• A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment.

Skills

• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
• Demonstrated certification in Blackboard, CANVAS, Course Compass or other online modalities.

Pay

The salary schedule for adjunct instructors begins at $86.85 per standard hour. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential.

Final determination of part-time ESL Instructor assignment is contingent upon enrollment, funding, and class availability.
