Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for part-time/adjunct faculty across all subjects. This is an applicant pool; individuals will be hired as needed. Submitted applications will remain on file for 36 months.

About the Role

Under general supervision, prepare and deliver instruction for credited academic and technical courses at the freshmen and sophomore levels. Perform duties and tasks associated with institutional effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all requirements outlined and published regarding the learning management system (Blackboard), including posting course syllabi, announcements, calendars, presentations, assignments with due dates, and test dates.
  • Teach from current job-relevant course syllabi and training plans.
  • Supplement lectures and demonstrations with multimedia materials.
  • Demonstrate to students the safe use of equipment used in the training plan.
  • Include safety, health, and fire prevention as an integral part of instruction.
  • Maintain an environment conducive to learning and supervise students to ensure discipline in class, lab, and shop.
  • Develop laboratory projects to relate theory to practical application through laboratory assignments.
  • Distribute a current syllabus at the beginning of each term containing course objectives, outline, methods of evaluation, schedule of activities, lab/shop rules, and course requirements (e.g., books, supplies, equipment).
  • Administer written and performance examinations systematically to determine students' progress, including final examinations.
  • Implement a system for recording student progress (e.g., progress charts, Blackboard or equivalent learning management system).
  • Teach and demand good work habits from students.
  • Submit a plan to the department chairperson and supervising administrators for coverage during absence.
  • Communicate students' progress to students and appropriate personnel by established guidelines.
  • Supervise students in cooperative educational settings (when applicable).
  • Respond to students' requests promptly, usually within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Follow all regulations regarding online instruction (when applicable).
  • Facilitate instructional methodologies for programs requiring "industry chemicals/products" to administer instruction.
  • Maintain permanent roll and accurate attendance records of students.
  • Submit attendance reports as required and on time.
  • Follow the state and institution's adopted grading system.
  • Submit grades each term for each student by the due date.
  • Submit forms to the registrar when changes occur in students' status.
  • Assist students in submitting required documents for graduation.
  • Participate in departmental orientation.
  • Communicate announcements to students as directed by the administration.
  • Follow institutional and System policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Adhere to FERPA Regulations and report any known violations.
  • Adhere to ADA Accommodation requirements when presented with official documentation.

Requirements

Instructors must meet the following qualifications based on the teaching discipline:

  • Technical Division (e.g., Drafting & Design, Electronics, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Automotive Service Technology, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration, Entertainment Media Production, Machine Tool Technology, Welding, Plumbing, Barbering, Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technician): Minimum of an Associate's degree or equivalent in the teaching discipline. Three (3) years of successful full-time experience as a practitioner in the field.
  • Cosmetology Instructors: Must hold an Alabama Cosmetology instructor license.

Pay

Compensation is based on the local salary schedule, determined by documented academic credentials and/or educational experiences, and does not exceed nine credit hours per semester. Exceptions must be approved by the Vice President for Instruction.

  • Technical Adjuncts (1-3 years of experience): $20.40 - $22.44 per contact hour.
  • Technical Adjuncts (4+ years of experience): $23.46 per contact hour.

Schedule

Employment is on an "as needed" basis.
