About the Program

The Master of Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) degree is a full-time, two-year program offered by the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies (GSBSPS) at Drexel University’s College of Medicine. Designed for pre-vet or animal science students, the program prepares individuals for advanced careers in laboratory animal science or biomedical research and enhances veterinary school applications. Since its inception, MLAS alumni have been accepted to more than half of the accredited U.S. Veterinary Medical Colleges.

The MLAS program combines training in basic science, laboratory animal science, and a hands-on practicum. Basic science courses build a foundation for a successful career, while laboratory animal science courses cover all aspects of the field and animal facility management. Most classes are scheduled in the late afternoon and early evening to accommodate working professionals.

Responsibilities

• Create a syllabus in accordance with University guidelines or teach the course using provided syllabus and materials.
• Teach assigned course section(s) and make yourself available to students.
• Maintain accurate documentation of course records to justify submitted grades.
• Submit student grades in accordance with University policy.
• Submit a copy of grade sheets to the department or unit no later than one week after grade submission.
• Coordinate arrangements for grades of Incomplete or grade appeals with the Program Director.
• Perform other duties related to the course as assigned by the department head or program director.

This is a non-tenure track adjunct faculty position that ends at the conclusion of the appointment without further notice. Time in this position does not count toward tenure or any probationary period. The appointment is contingent upon the course section(s) meeting minimum student enrollment requirements. The University reserves the right to cancel a course at any time; if canceled prior to the first class session, the appointment will be rescinded. If cancellation occurs less than seven days before the first class session and no comparable reassignment is offered, compensation of $250 will be provided (except for thesis supervision courses).

Requirements

• Master’s Degree or higher.
• Teaching or working experience in Laboratory Animal courses.
